Wallpaper Changer

Who is responsible for your data

Jose Armando Meza Vigueras (sole proprietor), trading as Axolotl Software, develops and publishes Wallpaper Changer and is the controller of the data described here, with an address at Toluca de Lerdo, Estado de México, 52140, Mexico.

This policy covers the app only. Data you send us by contacting us through the website is governed by the Axolotl Software privacy notice (in Spanish).

What the app does

Wallpaper Changer rotates your phone’s wallpaper on a schedule, using photos you pick and organise into albums. All of the work happens on the device: the app has no accounts, no server, and it never uploads your images anywhere.

What stays on your phone

The app handles this data and never transmits it:

  • Your photos. You choose them through the Android system photo picker, which lets you hand over specific images instead of granting the app access to your whole gallery. The app keeps a cropped copy in its own private storage, which no other app can read.
  • Your albums and their settings: how often the wallpaper rotates, which screen it applies to, and the order of the images.
  • Your preferences: language, theme and the rotation service settings.
  • Biometric unlock, if you turn it on. Android handles it with its own fingerprint or face system; the app only receives a yes or a no, and never sees or stores your fingerprint or your face.

None of this is copied, shared or backed up off the phone. Uninstall the app and it goes with it.

What does leave your phone

One thing only: crash reports.

When the app closes unexpectedly or hits a serious error, it sends a report to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service. It is what lets us reproduce and fix the failure, which we would otherwise only learn about if someone took the trouble to write to us.

The report contains technical data about the failure, not about you:

  • The error trace: where in the code it broke.
  • App version, device model, Android version, system language, and the memory and storage state at that moment.
  • The date and time of the crash.
  • A random identifier Crashlytics generates for that installation, which is not linked to your name, your email or your Google account.

Your photos, their file names and the contents of your albums are not sent.

Two honest caveats:

  • Reports are only sent from the build published on Google Play. Development builds do not even initialise Firebase.
  • There is currently no switch inside the app to turn this off. If you would rather not send crash reports, uninstalling the app is the only way today. We are looking at adding that control.

Firebase is operated by Google LLC and processes the data on servers in the United States, which means an international transfer. Google retains it under the Firebase policy — currently 90 days for crash reports — and then deletes it. You can read how they handle it in Google’s privacy policy and in the Firebase privacy information.

Permissions the app requests, and why

Permission What it is for
Set wallpaper It is what the app does.
Foreground service Keep the wallpaper rotation engine alive, with a visible notification while it runs.
Notifications Show that notification. Android requires it for this kind of service.
Run at device start-up Resume rotation after you restart the phone, without you having to open the app.
Keep the device awake Finish a wallpaper change without the system suspending the process halfway through.
Ignore battery optimisation Ask you for the exemption so Android does not kill the rotation. It is optional: deny it and the app still works, but the system may delay changes.
Biometrics Unlock the app with your fingerprint or face, only if you enable that option.

Photo access is not on this list because the app does not request a gallery permission: it uses the system picker, and only receives the images you mark.

What the app does not do

  • No ads and no advertising networks.
  • No sign-up, no login, no accounts.
  • Nothing is sold inside the app.
  • No usage analytics: we do not measure which screens you open or which buttons you tap.
  • No location, contacts, microphone, camera or calendar access.
  • We do not sell, rent or share data with third parties for commercial purposes.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data. There is no sign-up and no profile, so there is nothing a child could create in the app.

Security

Images and settings live in the private storage Android assigns to the app, isolated from other applications. Crash reports travel encrypted to Firebase. No system is infallible, but the surface here is deliberately small: where there is no server and no accounts, there is no user database to leak.

How to delete your data

Uninstalling the app deletes everything it keeps on the phone: copied images, albums and preferences. No copy remains anywhere, because there never was one off the device.

Crash reports are a different matter: as they are not linked to you, we cannot find “yours” in order to delete them. They are removed automatically once Firebase’s retention period is up. If you have a reason to request deletion of a specific report, write to us and we will take it up with Google.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to access the data we hold, correct it if it is inaccurate, delete it, or object to a particular use, and you can withdraw your consent.

Write to contact@axolotl-software.com, telling us which app you mean, which right you are exercising and how to reach you. We reply within 20 business days at the latest and, where it applies, act on it within the following 15 business days. Under Mexican data protection law (LFPDPPP), if you believe your rights have been infringed you may also turn to INAI, the Mexican data protection authority.

Wherever you live, write to that same address and we will honour the rights your local law gives you.

Changes to this policy

Any change is published at this same address, with the update date at the top. The URL does not change: it is the one registered in the store listing.
